The MacArthur Building was built in 1907 at 345 E. Toole Ave., and was first known as Hotel Heidel. The 22,000-square-foot, three-story building between the Hotel Congress and the Historic Train Depot later became the MacArthur Hotel, and since the 1980s it has housed offices.
We chose the MacArthur Building because it is quintessential Tucson – a true representation of past and present. Once destroyed by a partial building collapse, it is now beautifully remodeled with a mix of old and new. It’s right in the middle of some of the most historic spots in the city, including Hotel Congress, of John Dillinger fame, and the recently restored Historic Train Depot.
As Downtown Tucson experiences a much-needed revitalization, we’re proud to say that we were one of the first companies to call it our home.
Kevin and Jill Madden founded Madden Publishing in 1982 when they began publishing the Tucson Guide, a consumer magazine targeted toward the visitor market in Tucson. This proved successful, and they later partnered with the Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau (now Visit Tucson) to produce the bureau’s official visitor guide—a distinction they still hold to this day.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Madden expanded its market to Phoenix with the publication of Valley Guide, and around the country as respected tourism publishers. As the Internet emerged as an important destination marketing tool, Madden began to design and produce websites as a separate online marketing company and attracted many high-profile clients, including Coty Cosmetics and EA Sports.
In 2003, Madden Publishing acquired Preprint Publishing, a company with almost 30 years’ experience in producing tourism-specific publications. The following year, they merged to create Madden Media – an integrated print and online marketing company. Since that merger, Madden Media has grown to be the leader in providing digital marketing solutions for the travel industry.
Using the expertise acquired through nearly 40 years in the destination marketing industry, our hundreds of clients range from state tourism offices to locally-owned businesses. Through cooperative programs and a multitude of other marketing solutions, Madden Media specializes in finding ways for businesses to attract new visitors – connecting people to places.
