Situation
With the opening of the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, a $239 million development that was more than three years in the making, Visit Buffalo Niagara wanted national media coverage to help showcase this monumental destination cornerstone that further established the city’s presence as a premier destination.
While much of the buzz centralized around the museum reopening itself, it was equally important to be able to drive a larger narrative about the impact that this establishment has on the rebirth of the city as a whole.
APPROACH
We worked with Visit Buffalo Niagara and the AKG to plan a FAM tour that centralized not just on the museum itself but also highlighted other key attractions across the city.
Through ongoing media relations, we worked to identify and secure a mixture of arts-and culture-focused journalists who also had proven success in showcasing destination-wide stories. Among the nearly dozen attendees on the FAM tour was Jessica Ritz, a contributor to Travel + Leisure and Architectural Digest. In 2022, Madden began conversations with about Buffalo’s redevelopment.
RESULTS
As a result of our relationship with Jessica Ritz, following her visit, a full destination piece was published on TravelandLeisure.com that showcased the rich presence of art, culture, and history that the city of Buffalo proudly offers.
The recognition of such an encompassing destination piece by a major national outlet like Travel + Leisure has served as reinforcement of the destination’s investment in community, culture, and history.
